Pastel painting is flexible, expressive, and fun! Discuss and paint from photographs, focusing on the direction of light and its effect on your work. Pastel is the perfect medium to enable students to achieve results quickly, make changes and capture brilliance! Please bring with you photographs, colored paper in dark, deep tones such as Canson Mi-Tientes or Art Spectrum Colourfix.

Students will also need a board to work or with papers underneath for padding, clips, masking tape, and fixative spray, and a set or variety of hard pastels (NuPastel) and soft pastels (no oils).

Learn the basics of drawing, composition and perspective through a combination of short lectures, demonstrations and on-site drawing. Students will also learn color theory, how it affects a picture, positive and negative space, and how to use a line to create a form without color. Get instruction on the proper way to transfer a photo into a picture.

This is a fascinating class for both drawing skills and composition for sketchers and painters.
